The ballroom went to the movies on Monday night’s “Dancing With the Stars,” but even the potentially fun, prop-filled feature film theme couldn’t save some of the dances.
Grab some popcorn for this week’s highlights and lowlights.
First the show’s resident Dance Troupe, plus pros Louis Van Amstel, Val Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd, kicked the theme night off on the right foot with their tributes to Sergio Leone and John Sturges films, as well as an unforgettable nod to “Star Wars.”
Note to “Dancing” producers: This show needs more lightsabers!
Proving just how uneven the ballroom could be, the next act to hit the stage was former leading lady Chynna Phillips, who, as judge Bruno Tonioli pointed out, lost the plot shortly after hitting the floor with her “Mission Impossible” routine.
Another lowlight of the evening came from Chaz Bono. While Bono was much improved over last week, thanks to the fact that he actually danced this time around, his less than graceful "Rocky" routine lacked precision.
In the end, that was a dance only a mother could love, and from Cher’s teary-eyed reaction, it seems she did.
At least the night featured one celebrity routine that anyone could enjoy. Ricki Lake and pro partner Derek Hough wowed the crowd with their thrilling tango to the theme from “Psycho.”
