Rocker Courtney Love is negotiating a deal to resolve drug charges stemming from an October arrest in Los Angeles despite having tested positive at the time for cocaine use, prosecutors said  Monday.

“There’s a deal on the table that both sides have discussed,” Los Angeles County Assistant Supervising Attorney Jerry Baik said, adding that the agreement would involve Love entering a drug treatment facility.

Baik said the deal would be good for the 39-year-old rock singer because it would allow her to have misdemeanor charges of suspicion of drug use. A judge would dismiss the charges if she completed the program, he said.

“There have been three or four different drugs tested and one of the drugs that’s important to us has been cocaine, and that came up positive,” Baik said.

Baik made his remarks to reporters at a hearing for Love that was postponed because her attorney was busy in another courtroom.

Love, the widow of grunge rocker Kurt Cobain, also faces charges of illegal possession of prescription painkillers in a separate case in Beverly Hills. And in March, she was arrested in New York after throwing a microphone stand into a nightclub audience and hitting a man on the head.
