Paramount Pictures has bought feature film rights to “The Partridge Family,” the hit ABC series that followed the humorous adventures of a clan of musicians.

“Like the original series, it’s a contemporary family comedy. We aren’t looking to make it some campy remake but a mainstream family movie in the vein of 'School of Rock,”’ said producer Billy Gerber, referring to Paramount’s last big hit.

Gerber’s father, Roy Gerber, managed “Partridge” matriarch Shirley Jones, who played Shirley Partridge on the TV series.

Paramount optioned the “Partridge Family” rights from TV writer/playwright Bernard Slade, who created the original series for ABC. Slade will executive produce the feature, which is out to writers. He also created “The Flying Nun” TV series.

Paramount previously had success bringing “The Brady Bunch” to the big screen.
