House arrest has begun for Lindsay Lohan, who pleaded no contest to stealing a $2,500 necklace earlier this month. The actress began serving time Thursday morning at her home in Venice, Calif., after turning herself in to the Lynwood Jail hours earlier, People.com is reporting.

"She is now confined to the interior premises of her home at all times," L.A. Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore told People. He added that Lohan surrendered at Lynwood at 5:02 am, where it was determined she was eligible for home confinement, and was fitted with her ankle monitoring bracelet.

Lohan was originally sentenced to four months in jail, but overcrowding issues and her status as a nonviolent offender made her eligible for house arrest. She will still have to serve out the remainder of her sentence that includes 480 hours of community service when her house arrest ends.
