Kim Delaney headed for ‘The O.C.’

In two high-profile castings, Emmy-winner Kim Delaney and Teri Polo have landed key roles on Fox’s “The O.C.” and NBC’s “The West Wing,” respectively.

On “The O.C.,” which returns Thursday for its second season, Delaney will play an ex-flame who reappears in character Sandy Cohen’s (Peter Gallagher) life. She is slated to appear in at least five episodes of the hot primetime soap.

Delaney most recently starred in NBC’s top-rated earthquake-themed miniseries “10.5” and is slated to return for a sequel. She won an Emmy for her role as a detective in “NYPD Blue,” and later starred in her own short-lived cop drama “Philly.”

On “The West Wing,” Polo will play the potential first lady as the wife of Matthew Santos (Jimmy Smits), a three-term Democratic congressman from Texas with strong presidential aspirations.

Polo is set to do four episodes this season and has an option for 12 more next season if the White House drama returns for a seventh year. Smits also has an option to return to “The West Wing” next fall.

Polo, played Ben Stiller’s fiancee in “Meet the Parents,” and the sequel “Meet the Fockers,” which opens Dec. 22.
