Jon Gosselin was never offered ‘Dancing’ shot

If Jon Gosselin is to be believed, he had a shot at reality-show redemption — and passed on it. But sources close to "Dancing With the Stars" say that's not true.

If Jon Gosselin is to be believed, he had a shot at reality-show redemption — and passed on it.

Gosselin reportedly was offered a spot on the next season of “Dancing With the Stars” and turned it down. Us Weekly reported that the dad of eight was offered $500,000 to participate, but he reportedly didn’t want to put any strain on the family in order to compete.

The reality of the situation is Gosselin was never offered a spot on the show. Although ABC does not comment on the casting of future seasons of “DWTS,” sources close to the show and Gosselin confirm that the notion that he was going to lace up his dancing shoes is pure fiction.

Also, “that $500,000 payday is way off the mark,” one insider said.

Another source, this one close to the show, added, “Generally speaking, if someone is talking about getting an offer from ‘Dancing With the Stars,’ they are not getting an offer from ‘Dancing With the Stars.’ When people are really in talks to be part of the show, they don’t say anything about it.’”

Alec Baldwin to host SNL finaleAlthough “Saturday Night Live” never comments on any guest appearances until they’re more or less set in stone, the rumor that Alec Baldwin might host the show’s season finale seems to be credible, since it came from Baldwin himself.

Gawker posted footage from the red carpet at Saturday's White House Correspondents' Association Dinner that shows Baldwin clearly telling a reporter, “I’m going to be hosting the show on the 15th, I’m going to be hosting the season finale, after Betty (White).”

Baldwin has hosted the show 14 times before; his first crack at it was April 21, 1990.

Freddy slashes box office
Saw that one coming: “A Nightmare on Elm Street” won the weekend box office decisively.

The remake of the slasher classic, this one starring Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger, brought in $32.5 million. And really, if nothing else, aren’t we happy for Haley, who thought he wouldn’t work again just a few years ago?

“Nightmare”’s new-release competition, “Furry Vengeance,” was anything but. It made only $6.5 million, and came in 5th place, behind “How to Train Your Dragon,” “Date Night,” and “Back-up Plan.”
