First edition of 'Gatsby' expected to fetch up to $150,000

From a new movie to theme parties, interest in the Jazz Age classic "The Great Gatsby" is everywhere.

Now, a New York auction house is offering a first edition of F. Scott Fitzgerald's masterpiece. The pre-sale estimate is $100,000 to $150,000.

An unidentified North Carolina collector is offering it June 11 at Sotheby's.

The book once belonged to critic and novelist Malcolm Cowley.

The first edition contains handwriting in the margins and title page. Cowley transcribed comments found in Fitzgerald's own copy.

Fitzgerald's book is in the Princeton University collection.

Sotheby's says the first edition's rare Art Deco-style dust jacket is in very good condition. It depicts a woman's eyes above a distant city.

The 1925 novel tells the story of millionaire Jay Gatsby's passion for the effervescent Daisy Buchanan.
