"Our Idiot Brother" opens Aug. 26, and started us thinking about dummies in movies. We're not talking about "Forrest Gump" or "Rain Man," but more your garden-variety bimbos and himbos who populate every other comedy in the cineplex.

Some of them are dumb in "wow, I really want to slap some smarts into that person" way. But some are gloriously, wonderfully, entertainingly dumb. Those are the ones we like best, and they're also the ones who make their movies so entertaining.

Here's a list of some of our favorite dummies and their best moments.

Bob and Doug McKenzie, 'Strange Brew'

Best dumb moment:
They pour the last beer into the dog's dish, and then their dad calls out for it. Thinking fast, they pour the beer from the dish into a glass and serve it up to dad, completely ignoring the disgusting dog food crumbs and residue that came along with it.

Austin Powers, 'Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery'

Best dumb moment:
Oh, so many. But a classic sequence is when he's getting his personal property back after being defrosted, and tries multiple times to deny he owns a certain embarrassing item. The clerk finally offers up "One book, 'Swedish-made Penis Enlargers and Me: This Sort of Thing is My Bag, Baby' by Austin Powers."

Harry and Lloyd, 'Dumb and Dumber'

Best dumb moment:
"Dumb" is this movie's first, middle and last name. But one classic bit is where Jim Carrey's Lloyd trades their van for a scooter. "Just when I think you couldn't get any dumber," snarls Jeff Daniels' Harry. "You go and do something like this, and totally redeem yourself!"

Tommy, 'Tommy Boy'

Best dumb moment:
The late Chris Farley had many classic moments, both on "Saturday Night Live" and on the big screen. But it's hard to beat him trying to make David Spade laugh with the only-Farley-could-pull-this-off rendition of "Fat Guy in a Little Coat."

Ron Burgundy, 'Anchorman'

Best dumb moment:
One of the best is one of the simplest. "I'm Ron Burgundy?" Will Ferrell asks on air. "Dammit, who typed a question mark on the Teleprompter!" snarls Fred Willard.

'Napoleon Dynamite'

Best dumb moment:
Suffice to say "Napoleon Dynamite" isn't the smoothest when it comes to picking up chicks. He probably shouldn't draw pictures of them, for one thing. But he also shouldn't say anything like "I see you're drinking 1% [milk]. Is that 'cause you think you're fat? 'Cause you're not. You could be drinking whole if you wanted to."

Clark Griswold, 'Vacation'

Best dumb moment:
Why stop your vacation for a death in the family? Just leave old Aunt Edna's corpse in her son's backyard. You've got to get to Walley World!

Fogell, 'Superbad'

Best dumb moment:
No one in "Superbad" was too bright, but Fogell wins just for the sheer chutzpah to have his fake ID made with only the single name "McLovin" on it. The name has passed into the pop-culture hall of fame.
