Future farmers of America compete at Illinois State Fair

Children and teenagers show off their award-winning livestock at the Illinois State Fair, according to the AP. The champion animals are auctioned off with the money going to the kids, who often use it to help pay for college.The animals can bring in big money. Last year's champion steer sold for $35,000. Children and teenagers show off their award-winning livestock at the Illinois State Fair, according to the AP. The champion animals are auctioned off with the money going to the kids, who often use it to help pay for college.

The animals can bring in big money. Last year's champion steer sold for $35,000. Two other animals -- a pig and another steer -- brought more than $18,000 each.

The auction also includes champion sheep, goats, chickens and rabbits.
