Although David Charvet is vying for a championship title on ABC's "The Superstars" (airing Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET), he and fiancée Brooke Burke have already crowned a kind-hearted dog lover with that title. After the couple's chocolate Lab Jake went missing nine months ago, they feared they'd never see him again. But on June 15, they got an unexpected call from a veterinarian 20 miles away from their L.A. home that the pup was alive and well."To our amazement, we spoke to the man who had taken him in nine long months ago," Burke, the Season 7 champion on "Dancing With the Stars," wrote in her blog on ModernMom.com.

"Someone found Jake in our town, had no idea who his owner was (Jake had no collar) and gave him to a neighbor who took him in and cared for him. Today, the man took Jake to a vet for a random check-up and for blood work. After telling the vet the story of how Jake came into his life, the vet decided to scan Jake. David had an identity chip put in Jake as a puppy. Immediately David’s info and phone number showed up and the vet was obligated to contact us."

Shocked that Jake was alive and well, Burke and Charvet hurried to the vet's office to reunite with their pooch.

"We rushed to pick up Jake. The man who took him in was kind, thoughtful and apologetic for not thinking to have a scan done," Burke wrote.

But as thrilled as they were to have Jake back, they felt "equally sad for the gentleman who was losing his friend of nine months. "It was bittersweet," Burke wrote. "Thank God for honest people who are selfless enough to do the right thing. I hope something wonderful happens to [Jake’s rescuer] Audy in the Valley, for caring for Jake and letting him go."
