Crib notes: Do 'Children at Play' signs make your street more...dangerous?

Does your street sport those little, yellow, "Slow - Children at Play" signs? If so, run, don't walk, to tear them down. That's the advice being given by the National Cooperative Highway Research Program. Okay, well not you personally, but the local officials in charge of such things. Many traffic engineers dislike the advisory signs and think they give people a false sense of security. Many argue

Many argue that lowering speed limits would do a lot more to improve children's safety than the easy to ignore "at play" signs.

Are those adorable Girl Scouts really just a bunch of radical abortion activists? Two teenage sisters in Texas are claiming the organization has a "pro-abortion mindset," which they say is evidenced by the Girl Scouts' participation in a United Nations event in which a brochure advocating "sexual and reproductive rights" for everyone was allegedly distributed. Great, next thing you know, those little be-sashed girls will stop selling cookies and start burning their training bras... The Girl Scouts USA says that not only did they not produce the pamphlet (it was produced by International Planned Parenthood), but no girl who attended that event was given the brochure.

Kids whose political status updates on Facebook question the President's safety can expect an interrogation from the Secret Service. One 13-year-old boy, who posted a warning to President Obama about possible retaliatory terrorist attacks after Osama bin Laden's death, found himself getting an unexpected visit from Secret Service, who interpreted the post as a threat. The boy's mother, who wasn't present or even notified of the questioning, is upset that government officials interrogated her son without her knowledge.

$40,000 to decorate a kid's bedroom?! When you compare it to the mom who just dropped $60k to decorate her kid's bedroom, it almost seems reasonable. Almost. ABC's "Extreme Room Makeover" has profiled some fantastical children's bedrooms, sporting $15,000 in murals and $1,200 spent on a chandelier. For a child's room... Chances are, no matter how much you felt like you splurged on your tyke's interior design, you're feeling pretty darn frugal in comparison.
