Kid President has made it all the way to the Oval Office.
In a video posted on YouTube Thursday, Robby Novak, the 9-year-old “self-appointed voice of a generation” known as Kid President, is seen having an adorable meeting with the real president. He was given a tour of the Oval Office and talked with Obama about how kids and adults can work together to change the world.
The third-grader from Tennessee, whose inspirational videos have made him a YouTube sensation, is no stranger to the White House, as he participated in the Easter Egg Roll on the South Lawn on Sunday as well as a White House April Fool's Day prank. In his meeting with the president, he got to sit behind the big desk in the Oval Office, where he mimicked answering the phone.
“Is anybody on there?’’ Obama joked. “Let’s make sure not to cause an international incident.”
On the tour, Obama showed Novak a program from the day of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream’’ speech, a painting of Abraham Lincoln, a telegraph and the Emancipation Proclamation. The president also made sure Kid President can balance his schoolwork with his duty of trying to make the world more fun.
“So much demands on your time trying to balance being president and being in the third grade, that’s a lot of stuff,’’ Obama said. “You seem to be handling it pretty well.”
“Very well,’’ Novak replied.
Novak then gave his review of Obama’s performance in office.
“You’re doing awesome,’’ he said.
He also asked Obama what kids and adults can do to help make the world a better place.
“The most important thing we can all do is to treat each other with kindness and respect,’’ the president said. “If you see a kid being picked on, you make sure you stand up for him, and you treat everybody fairly no matter what they look like or where they’re from. If you start learning to do that as kids and everybody is respectful of each other and nice to each other, then when they grow up, they’ll be doing the same thing, and we’ll have a lot fewer problems.’’
Even though it was a meeting between presidents, they dropped the formality and shared a hug and a high five at the end of the visit. Asked afterward how it went, an elated Novak said, “We did small talk.”
