Just what is "Django Unchained" about? Is it an action-adventure? Is it a Spaghetti Western? Is it a comedy? Is it a romance? According to star Jamie Foxx, the answer is "yes" -- to all of those things.
"Of course there are hot button issues -- the language and violence," he told TODAY's Savannah Guthrie on Wednesday, "but the way it landed, I mean when you watch this play in front of an audience, it's amazing. It takes you to those moments that are dark and tough to watch, but (there) are a lot of moments that come from out of nowhere that makes the whole audience bubble up."
Of course, for many, the only description they need of "Django," which features Foxx as a slave-turned-bounty hunter, is the director's name: Quentin Tarantino. And Foxx promised the director-writer will disappoint no one.
"Quentin Tarantino is a genius," he said. "As I've said, this Christmas is going to come in with a bang. ... The movie plays like gangbusters. It's a trip."
"Django Unchained" opens in theaters Dec. 25.
