"American Idol" veteran Clay Aiken's name is awfully similar to that of beleaguered U.S. Rep. Todd Akin, whose remarks about "legitimate rape" have drawn criticism from both political parties.

But Aiken the singer finds some humor in the politician's troubles. As a tweet he sent out Monday night indicates, Akin's woes mean Aiken moves up a notch in Aiken/Akin brainpower circles.

Wrote Aiken: "2nd place on Idol. 2nd place on Apprentice. And now thanks to @reptoddakin I'm only the 2nd stupidest Aiken!"

Aiken isn't the only entertainer weighing in on the Akin issue. Actor Kirk Cameron defended Akin on TODAY Tuesday, calling the Missouri politician a "good man" in a "very, very difficult spot."

Akin made more entertainment headlines when he failed to show up for a scheduled appearance on Piers Morgan's CNN show Monday night. Morgan made the most of the cancellation by featuring the empty chair where Akin would have been seated. Poynter.org reported that two parody Twitter accounts, @AkinEmptyChair and @ChairMcCaskill, sprung up after Morgan featured the chair.

And there's now a YouTube video in which musician Taylor Ferrera sings about "Legitimate Rape."
