Literary iPhone cases bring out your inner hipster

One would think that literature-themed iPhone cases help people get in touch with their inner bookworms, but it turns out that's a laughable assumption. Wrapping a "Catcher in the Rye," "Lolita" or "Clockwork Orange" case around a gadget will simply bring you closer to your inner hipster instead.

At least that's the impression my co-workers got when I shared that my iPhone 4 is currently hugged by a "Great Gatsby" case. They didn't believe that I was only using the accessory because it arrived in the mail yesterday — unsolicited.

You see, the case — which you can ogle on the right — is part of a collection created by case designer Speck and clothing company Out of Print. The two decided to partner up to make iPhone 4 cases modeled after classic literary themes including those just mentioned as well as "Moby Dick," "To Kill a Mockingbird" as well as one featuring author Edgar Allan Poe.

The cases themselves aren't particularly remarkable — at least not to someone who seems to handle a new iPhone case every week. They're made of a "soft-touch" material — meaning that they seem neither too rubbery nor too plastic-y — and have fabric-wrapped backs which make them almost feel like old books.

You can order the cases exclusively through Out of Print's online store. They will set you back $35, but for every case sold, Out of Print will donate a book to a school or community in need through the Books for Africa program.
