It's one of life's greatest food mysteries. Whether you're cooking for yourself or making a large meal for a crowd, how much pasta should you really be making?

Is a handful too much? Too little? Should I add a little more, or is what's in the pot enough?

And how much is too much?

Well, it turns out that the answer may have been in the palm of your hand (or stashed away in your kitchen appliance drawer) the whole time.

Know that little hole in your spaghetti spoon? Turns out, you can use it to portion out the perfect amount of pasta for one person ... or many more!

That's right! A photo posted by Imgur user PolarChi went viral in 2016 and the internet has been losing its collective mind over this incredible revelation.

"I didn't even know that was a spaghetti spoon. I've just always used tongs," one person posted on Facebook.

"And I thought it was to drain the said spaghetti. How could I have been so wrong all these years. I'm going back to bed. My day has been upset," wrote another.

Of course, not everyone was onboard with this useful tip.

"Portions....whats that???? Love my pasta too much to measure it..."

If you're a pasta spoon believer, here's what to do: Just place a handful of dried spaghetti through it to measure a portion for one diner and add more as needed, depending on how many people you're cooking for. Never worry about making too much, or too little, ever again.

Pasta, you've just been hacked!
