Before the iPhone, the iPod, and the iPad, Apple was all about the personal computer. In 1984, the company was battling IBM to dominate the home computer market.
And on April 24, 1984, TODAY reported on Apple's release of its latest contender in fight against IBM: the Apple IIc. The Apple IIc computer weighed 7.5 pounds, cost $1,300, and was able to run hundreds of programs.
Apple's other 1984 computer was the Macintosh, famously previewed in a Super Bowl ad that year.
In his report for TODAY, NBC News correspondent Dennis Moore explained that the Macintosh was "aimed at people, mostly young, who like the idea of the computer, but not the technology." Moore also declared that the Macintosh was "slick and easy to use" and likened it to a "kind of Cuisinart for the desk."
