If the moon was looking a little red to you last night, you don't need to get your eyes checked. You were seeing what's known as a blood moon, which occurs during a total lunar eclipse.

The shadow cast by the eclipse dulls the moon's usual glow and light shimmering through earth's atmosphere creates the red tint.

As the moon became visible across the U.S. Tuesday morning between 3 a.m. and 4:30 a.m., people quickly began sharing their photos of the phenomenon online.
