Man drops engagement ring in the ocean during proposal

Matthew Picca had the perfect proposal planned — but things didn't go according to plan.

Matthew Picca had the perfect proposal planned: He took girlfriend Kayla Harrity to a picturesque restaurant on the North Carolina coast, presented her with a diamond ring and then ...

Well, that's when things didn't go according to plan.

"Matthew got down on one knee at our favorite place in [Southport] tonight," Harrity told her followers on Facebook. "Just as he opened the ring box, the ring fell out of the box and thru the crack on the deck."

Oops!

But as dire as the situation seemed, that wasn't the ring's final fate.

Picca and others, including complete strangers who'd witnessed the incident, hopped in the water before the tide could claim the pricey prize.

"It took five men and my sister 1.5 hours to find the ring in that water," Harrity explained.

One costly loss avoided. But before Picca could present the ring (and actually pop the question), he realized the ocean claimed another possession.

Harrity told WBTV that her sister thought Picca's phone had a waterproof case, so she turned the flashlight on and plunged it underwater during the search.

Oops — again!

But Picca's luck wasn't all bad that day. Harrity said "yes"!

"We are getting married!" she added to her Facebook post.

Congratulations to the happy (and now dry) couple!
