3 tips to easily whip your favorite room into tip-top shape

1. Declutter
We got rid of 80 percent of the stuff they accumulated throughout the years. The extra books the family donated to charity, clothing was donated to the Salvation Army and many of the other items we tossed. The whole process takes a few hours, so reserve one weekend morning and get it done!

2. Assess what you need
The Gutmajer family needed bins and shelves to hold all of their items. They have two grandsons running around, so having a place for them to keep their toys was essential. Pick up cute holders and shelves that will add a pop of elegance and color to the room.

3. Accessories can make all the difference
Furniture is great but you can make a room instantly better with area rugs, bedding and throw pillows. They'll add an instant pop to your room and also make it feel homey!
