After hosting his late-night talk show "What What Happens Live," Bravo exec Andy Cohen spends most of his nights up late and out on the town. The author, newly-minted Sirius XM radio host, and host and executive producer of the “Real Housewives” franchise is often out til the wee hours enjoying cocktails at A-list parties, or hanging with celeb pals like Sarah Jessica Parker, Kelly Ripa, and John Mayer.

Mornings are his down time, when he recharges and gets quality time with his rescue dog, Wacha. Here, he shares his morning routine:

TODAY.com: How do you wake up?

Andy Cohen: I’m not typically a morning person — my dog has made me more of a morning person. My dog is great in that he sleeps with me and he doesn’t get out of bed until I do, so he’s very sweet. He lets me sleep as long as I want. I usually wake up around 8:30 or 9 am.

Do you sleep late because you’re up so late?

My routine is dictated by what I have to do that day and what time I went to bed the night before. Typically, I may have to do some stuff on the phone first, but my first hard commitment is working out at noon. I work out for about an hour with a trainer. But remember, most nights I go to bed around 2:30 am, so everything kinda starts later.

There’s an Instagram shot of you hanging upside down at the gym. What are you doing?

I’m just doing this horrible ab exercise that my trainer “the Ninj” makes me do. It’s a nightmare!

So, what’s your morning routine?

We wake up and my first stop is the pot of tea (English breakfast), which I immediately put on the kettle, and I make sure (my dog) Wacha has water. Then I have some "me" time with my newspapers and computer and kind of wake up, drink my tea, and after about a half hour, once I’ve read in and gotten some caffeine in me, I’ll put my shoes on and my dog starts going nuts because he knows he’s about to go out.

I put my headphones on and listen to the Howard Stern show and take him for a walk, usually to the dog run in my neighborhood. We come home, I’ll feed the dog and I’ll eat a piece of toast. I do some work, answer emails, until I have to go work out.

Do you watch TV or listen to music in the morning?

I listen to music … a lot of Grateful Dead.

What do you do when getting ready that people would be surprised to know?

I guess that I have very little clothes on until I leave to walk the dog.

You’ve been on some best-dressed lists; does it take a long time to pick your clothes in the morning?

What I wear in the morning is so bad! It’s always kind of sweats and a sweatshirt, Uggs, whatever is easiest to get on to get Wacha outside. But for regular clothes, I’m pretty decisive. I’ve got great options, I have to say. I have a ton of ties.

Do you talk to Wacha while you’re getting ready in the morning?

I talk to him constantly. There’s running dialogue to the dog.
