Adam Levine's potentially scary encounter with a fan at a Maroon 5 concert ended with the singer wrapping his arm around her — before security escorted her off the stage.

A coach on NBC's "The Voice," Levine was in the middle of a song at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, on Monday when a woman in a dress and high heels climbed onto the stage behind him and tried to wrap her arms behind his neck.

Levine, who'd been facing the other direction, appeared startled when the woman placed her hands on him. Initially backing away, he relaxed when he realized the wobbling fan appeared to want a hug and/or a slow-dance. Security ushered the fan off the stage without further incident.

After the song ended, the pop star talked about the "weird" encounter with the concert crowd, many of whom captured the moment on cell phones and chronicled it on social media.

"You're singing, and your eyes are closed, and you have this beautiful moment," Levine said. "And then the next thing you know someone's ... in your face. Super terrifying."

The singer added that his ear had been cut by the overzealous fan's fingernail, prompting many fans to reply with an empathetic "Awwww."
