Researchers at the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. and the City University of New York have discovered that elephants may be smarter than you think.  As opposed to human brains, which are about the size of a 3-pound melon, the elephant brain is 11 pounds, or two watermelons put together.

One young male elephant at the National Zoo, Kandula, seems to be using every bit of his brain, showcasing deductive reasoning skills equivalent to those of a 4-year-old. In the video above, NBC's Tom Costello reports on some of the impressive skills Kandula has exhibited.  It may make you reconsider any preconceptions you have about elephants being big, clunky and dumb!
