Elizabeth Taylor'sreal jewels were put up for auction at Christie's this week, breaking records with nearly $116 million earned. But if you couldn't pony up the $8,818,500 that was bid for the 33.19-carat diamond ring given to Taylor by (twice-) husband Richard Burton, there's hope: You can buy a replica for just $56.69 on Overstock.com. (Granted, it's one big cubic zirconia.)
Overstock.com recreated the Hollywood legend's most famous sparkly pieces, including the heavy diamond necklace she wore to the Oscar ball in 1970, a Van Cleef & Arpels diamond-encrusted pin, and an impressive emerald necklace (shown below), recreated and priced at $99.99. Prices range from $39.99 for coral dangle earrings to $1,646.09 for 14-karat white gold chandelier earrings featuring dangling aquamarine tear drops framed in diamonds.
Replicas are big business this year. Retailers quickly jumped on Britain's royal wedding, recreating everything from Duchess Kate's wedding gown to her sapphire and diamond engagement ring. And just recently, the "Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn" wedding gown, designed for Bella Swan by Carolina Herrera, had a near-identical replica ready for sale the weekend after the movie's release.
It's no surprise the queen of diamonds got the same treatment, albeit with some help from glittering fake jewels.
