Surprise! The Town Heists Producers Guild Noms

Yes, The Social Network still has friends in high, award-giving places. So does The King's Speech. And Black Swan. And all the other films we've now come to expect to hear from on nomination mornings.

But the surprise nominee among today's (first) batch of honorees--for the Producers Guild of America's most prestigious year-end prize--is The Town.

Wicked awesome, right? Well, maybe...

The upside of being a surprise nominee is that you were actually nominated. The downside is that you're not exactly the odds-on favorite to take home the top prize, in this case for Outstanding Producer of a Motion Picture.

Which is good news for the competition.

Also nominated this year are 127 Hours, The Fighter, The Kids Are All Right, True Grit (Ben Affleck-Matt Damon BFF face-off alert!) and Toy Story 3, the sole animated film to be nominated in its own right among the main category's big 10. (Condolences to presumptive nominee Winter's Bone, which got edged out this time around.)

Toy Story 3 was naturally nominated again in the Animated Film category, going up against How to Train Your Dragon and Despicable Me.

Here's hoping those minions run a clean campaign.

Meanwhile, it wasn't all movie madness this morning, as the guild also unveiled its TV nominees. Once again, the usual suspects prevailed.

Vying for comedy honors this year are 30 Rock, Glee, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Modern Family and The Office. On the drama side, Breaking Bad, Dexter, Lost, Mad Men and True Blood are up.

The Colbert Report, Top Chef, Project Runway, The Amazing Race and Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List also netted nominations.

The winners of this year's Producers Guild Awards will be announced in a ceremony hosted by Judd Apatow on Jan. 22, three days before the Oscar nominations are unveiled. Good luck, everyone!
