A recent message from Sarah Jessica Parker seemed like the news "Sex and The City" fans had been waiting for — another film in the franchise was on the way.

Or not.

On Monday, after weeks of rumors and speculation about "SATC 3," Parker posted a photo of herself stepping out in NYC on Instagram. It was accompanied by a telling (but not too telling) caption.

"Well. I guess the cat's out of the (little brown) bag," she wrote. "As usual, we will keep you posted on every detail as we are able. I'm under strict gag order until then. Xx, Sj."

Parker's followers were quick to cheer the news in the comments, with "OMG! #SATC3" being a common reaction. But, of course, Parker never actually said anything about the movie directly. And there's a good reason for that — she wasn't talking about a movie at all.

On Tuesday, Parker cleared up the confusion in an Instagram post from the account of her shoe line, the SPJ Collection.

"Pinch me, I'm dreaming," she wrote. "After months and months of sworn secrecy, I can finally shout the news from the rooftop. Or even better, from the iconic @bloomingdales awning. Welcome to New York, @sjpcollection. You're going to love it here. Finally, a permanent home in NYC."

And for those caught up in the "SATC" confusion, she added, "Ps. Forgive me for any previous misunderstandings. Twenty lashes with a wet noodle. Yours forever, Sj x"

So is all hope lost where a sequel is concerned? Maybe not. When one of Parker's "Sex and the City" pals, Kristin Davis, stopped by TODAY last week, she remained mysterious.

"I do not know what's happening," Davis said. But she added, if does happen, "Of course I'd be in it! We'd all be in it."
