It's not exactly a drama worthy of a soap opera, but the plot still thickens.

Rick Springfield pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges stemming from his May 1 arrest for alleged DUI.

The former General Hospital star didn't have to be in court because this is a misdemeanor case, so his attorney addressed the counts of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and driving while having a 0.08 percent or higher blood-alcohol content on Springfield's behalf.

The singer-actor was busted on Malibu's Pacific Coast Highway after a cop noticed his 1963 Corvette accelerating quickly. The officer smelled alcohol on Springfield's breath, after which the man responsible for "Jessie's Girl" blew a .10 in a breath test.

A pretrial hearing has been set for Aug. 15.
