What do you do to avoid a school bus smackdown?

There’s lots of buzz about yet another story of a parent going ballistic on a school bus to confront their child’s alleged bully.  You may recall last September there was  James Willie Jones of Lake Mary, Fla., who was charged with disorderly conduct for verbally berating kids who he believed were harassing his 13-year-old daughter.  Jones later apologized for his actions and said no parent

Jones later apologized for his actions and said no parent should copy his behavior.

Apparently Toccara Daniels missed that memo. The 27-year-old Pompano Beach, Fla., mom was recently caught on video storming onto her 6-year-old daughter’s school bus and slapping the 7-year-old boy who her daughter said had hit her.  Daniels has been charged with child abuse without great harm and is being held without bail.

With every bullying story comes a collective sympathy for all the Mama and Papa Bears out there who are compelled to react. While it’s human nature to want to defend our kiddos, clearly violent behavior isn’t a rational answer.

That said, are other forms of reacting more acceptable?  Have you ever confronted another child for mistreating your own child?
