Randy Meier joins MSNBC

Veteran broadcast anchor Randy Meier has joined MSNBC’s dayside anchor team, it was announced today by Mark Effron, Vice President of Live Programming, MSNBC.

Veteran broadcast anchor Randy Meier has joined MSNBC’s dayside anchor team, it was announced today by Mark Effron, Vice President of Live Programming, MSNBC.

“Randy's expertise and recognized talent as both anchor and reporter are tremendous assets for covering live cable news,” Effron said. “He has the natural ability to get to the heart of a story, and deliver the news in a concise and engaging way, which makes him the perfect addition to our daytime line-up. We’re thrilled to have him aboard.”

Meier, who is currently with ABC affiliate KSTP-TV in Minneapolis, anchoring the 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. newscasts, will begin anchoring for MSNBC in mid-August. He leaves KSTP on June 26th. Meier joined KSTP-TV in 1990 as a reporter. Prior to that, he was host of the Fox weekly series, “BEYOND TOMORROW,” in Los Angeles.

Meier is the recipient of numerous awards for broadcast journalism. In 2002, he received an Emmy Award for his work on “Oil Field of Dreams,” an investigative report on the environmental impact of oil drilling in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. He also received two Edward R. Murrow Awards and a Page One Award from the Society of Professional Journalists for “Oil Field of Dreams.” Additionally, while at KSTP, Meier received three other Emmys, the 2003 National Headliner Award for Best Newscast, and a National Iris Award.

Meier graduated from the University of Wisconsin in La Crosse with a bachelor’s degree in mass communications.

Meier and his wife, Kami, live in New Jersey with their five daughters.
