'Green Acres' star Frank Cady dies at 96

"Green Acres" star Frank Cady died Friday at his home in Wilsonville, Ore. He was 96. Catherine Turk, Cady's daughter, confirmed his death to The Los Angeles Times. Cady was best known for playing Sam Drucker, general store proprietor in Hooterville, on the classic sitcom "Green Acres" from 1965 to 1971. He also played the same character in "Petticoat Junction" and "The Beverly Hillbillies." In 1990, Cady took on the role again for the TV movie "Return to Green Acres."

The character actor also appeared in several films including Alfred Hitchcock's "Rear Window." He also starred as Doc Williams on "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet."

Cady's wife, Shirley, passed away in 2008. The couple moved to Oregon in the 1990s and were the parents of two children -- daughter Catherine and son Steven.
