Breaking up with a significant other is rough, but at least there are Adele songs to guide you through it. But what do you do if you find yourself having to break up with a friend?
Lesley Jane Seymour of "More" magazine and relationship expert Tiffanie Davis Henry talked Kathie Lee and Hoda through the etiquette of dumping a pal who just isn't doing it for you anymore. The right way to do it? Well, it depends a lot on what type of friend they are.
Tiffanie explained that it helps to categorize your social relationships. Start with your "inner circle" (lifelong intimates you'd probably never break up with), followed by your "social circle" (friends with whom you share common interests), "catch up" friends (people you see once in a while), and "hi & bye" friends, on whom you shouldn't expend much more energy than a wave.
If you do need to "break up" for real, Tiffanie and Lesley suggest discussing your needs with the friend first, then deciding whether it's time for you to make your "it's not you it's me" speech and keep your distance.
The way not to do it?
"Don't just hit the delete button on Facebook," said Lesley.
"That's cruel," agreed Hoda.
