Sofia Coppola weds musician Thomas Mars

Sofia Coppola and longtime love Thomas Mars tied the knot in a civil ceremony in Italy Saturday.

The filmmaker went back to her roots for her big day, marrying the French Phoenix singer at her family's villa in Bernalda, the town where Coppola's grandparents were born.PHOTOS: Stars and their soulmates

The bride's father, director Francis Ford Coppola, walked her down the aisle. Clad in a lavender gown custom-designed by Azzedine Alaia, the 40-year-old "Lost in Translation" screenwriter said "I Do" in front of about 80 guests, including Johnny Depp and director George Lucas.

Mayor Leonardo Chiruzzi performed the civil ceremony. "Everything went well," Chiruzzi told The Associated Press. "It was simple, calm, in the garden."PHOTOS: Gorgeous celebrity weddings

Guests of the couple enjoyed a variety of local cheeses, fish, salads, pasta and pork, which they paired with wine from the Coppola family's farm.

The meal was followed by a simple vanilla cake with chantilly cream, decorated with white flowers. Made to serve about 100 people, it was designed by the chef at the Magna Grecia hotel in Bernalda.PHOTOS: Celebs show off their engagement bling

"If they wanted to do a Hollywood wedding, they wouldn't have done it here," Chiruzzi said of Coppola and Mars, 34. "They chose to do it here because it's here -- it's here that is beautiful."

Coppola and Mars have two daughters: Romy, 4, and Cosima, 15 months. Coppola divorced director Spike Jonze in 2003 after four years of marriage.
