Medical Minute: New drug to treat eczema; Zika may be transmitted via tears, sweat
There’s big news for the more than 30 million people who suffer from eczema. A new treatment, set to potentially launch by March 2017, is injected into the skin either weekly or biweekly and is showing promising results. NBC’s medical contributor Dr. Natalie Azar says trials showed that the drug not only resulted in almost total clearing of the skin, but it also alleviated the itching as well as reduced anxiety and depression. Dr. Azar also has the latest on the Zika virus, explaining that a case reported in the New England Journal of Medicine suggests the virus may be transmitted through tears and sweat.
