Former acting director of CDC worries about ‘political pressure’ on FDA to approve vaccine
Dr. Rich Besser, former acting director of the CDC who led the agency’s effort against the H1N1 pandemic, tells TODAY that while it’s “clearly exciting” that the United Kingdom has granted emergency approval of Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine, “I have real concerns that if there’s political pressure on FDA, we get a vaccine that’s approved, but no one’s going to want to get it … if you look at the polling, there’s a lot of distrust right now.”
