Pope Francis faced a stunning accusation from a former Vatican official over the weekend. Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, who served as Vatican ambassador to the U.S., said in a statement that the pope knew about allegations of sexual abuse against American Cardinal Theodore McCarrick and took no action.
