Staff Sgt. Ray Lambert, who saved more than a dozen men on D-Day, dies at 100
Staff Sgt. Ray Lambert was 23 years old and had already earned three Purple Hearts and two Silver Star medals when he landed on Omaha Beach during the Normandy invasion in 1944. Even after suffering gunshots to his arm and leg that day, he was able to save more than a dozen men wounded on the beach. Lambert died last Friday at age 100. Sunday TODAY’s Willie Geist remembers a life well lived.
