Ahead of Wednesday's Commander-in-Chief Forum at the Intrepid, Charlie, TODAY's puppy with a purpose, got his paws on access to a special behind-the-scenes tour.
The Intrepid was launched in 1943 as part of the Essex-class carriers, and served in World War II, the Vietnam War and the Cold War. Today, the vessel is open to the public in the heart of New York City as a museum.
First, Charlie visited the British Aerospace/McDonnell-Douglas AV-8C Harrier jet. Fun fact: This aircraft can both land and take off vertically.
Next, he put his pilot skills to the test in the Sea Guard, a Coast Guard helicopter! This aircraft is specifically designed for rescue at sea.

But this next stop was even bigger...literally! Charlie was pint-size compared to Enterprise, NASA's first space shuttle.
Charlie was a little confused when he spotted giant ropes and anchors in the fo’c’s’le, a place mainly used for maintenance and operation of anchor chains.

It's ruff being a pup...so after a lot of exploring and some impromptu playing, Charlie decided to take a load off inside the Gemini capsule.
Tune in to the Commander-in-Chief Forum at 8 p.m. hosted by Matt Lauer.
