Backlash against Verizon is growing after the company admitted that it slowed the wireless data speeds of California firefighters as they battled the largest fire in the state’s history. Verizon said it happened because the Santa Clara County Fire Department’s plan allowed for limited use of high-speed wireless data. However, the company said it does lift data caps during emergencies, and this instance was a “customer support mistake.” Firefighters said it significantly impacted their ability to provide emergency services.
