Melvin Carter, mayor of St. Paul, Minnesota, tells TODAY “we are doubly traumatized” by the coronavirus pandemic as well as the death of George Floyd in the custody of Minneapolis police. He says police are working hard “to get to the bottom of who’s coordinating” protests and says that violence “further traumatizes” communities that are already suffering. He adds, “we’re calling for peace, but that should not be confused with patience.”June 1, 2020
