Rafer Johnson, 1st Black captain of US Olympic team, dies at 86


Decathlete Rafer Johnson, who carried the United States flag during the opening ceremony of the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, has died at age 86. The gold medalist and first Black captain of a U.S. Olympic team later became an actor, sports broadcaster and a founder of Special Olympics Southern California.
