Melvin Van Peebles, trailblazing Black filmmaker, dies at age 89


Known as the godfather of modern Black cinema, Melvin Van Peebles, a trailblazing filmmakers, actor and writer, died Tuesday at age 89. Van Peebles is credited with ushering in the blaxploitation film wave of the 1970s.
