Mary Cleave, pioneering NASA astronaut, dies at 76

02:10

Mary Cleave, a trailblazing astronaut and environmentalist who became the 10th woman to travel into space when her crew launched in the shuttle Atlantis, has died at 76. Dr. Cleave was the first woman to fly on a space shuttle mission following the Challenger disaster. Sunday TODAY’s Willie Geist remembers a life well lived. ***CORRECTION: An earlier version incorrectly stated that Sally Field was the first woman in space. This has been updated to reflect that Field was the first American woman in space. ***
