Manufacturer refuses to recall potentially unsafe air bag inflators

U.S. regulators are demanding a recall of 67 million air bag inflators used by at least a dozen automakers, saying the inflators could rupture and project metal fragments. The Tennessee manufacturer says that no defect exists and that any problems are related to isolated manufacturing issues.
