Singer John Legend took to Twitter to call the national anthem a “weak song” in support of NFL player Colin Kaepernick’s decision not to stand for the anthem, and Legend is asking people if they “truly love that song?” The musician also invoked questions about the meaning of a rarely-sung third verse of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” which some argue is connected to a celebration of slavery.Sept. 1, 2016
