Hydroxychloroquine ‘could cause some fatal issues,’ doctor says

In the wake of President Trump saying Monday that he is taking hydroxychloroquine to avoid contracting COVID-19, NBC News medical correspondent Dr. John Torres warns that studies show that “people should not be taking this” outside a clinical setting. He says that while the drug works against malaria, studies have not found it effective against the coronavirus, and “we have numerous studies that people who have started taking it have had heart arrhythmias, even fatal.”
