Georgia woman Kelly Gissendaner executed despite pope’s plea

Kelly Gissendaner, the only woman on Georgia’s death row, became the first woman put to death in the state in 70 years despite a flurry of last-minute pleas, including one from Pope Francis. She was convicted of orchestrating the 1997 murder of her husband by her boyfriend.
