Just last month, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced it was adding a new category to the Oscars for outstanding achievement in popular film. Now, in a statement released Thursday, the academy backpedaled, saying it will no longer include the new category at next year’s ceremony. TODAY’s Carson Daly has the details in the Orange Room.
