Dr. Joseph Costa, head of the critical care unit at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, spent the past several months on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic, treating some of the sickest patients in the intensive care unit he ran. Costa, who had a rare autoimmune disorder, contracted the virus and died last month surrounded by his husband and nearly two dozen hospital colleagues and friends. He was 56 years old. NBC’s Hallie Jackson remembers a life well-lived.
