If you wear contact lenses, you might be adding to the global plastic pollution problem without realizing it. Researchers at Arizona State University found 45 million Americans wear disposable contact lenses, with about one in five flushing used lenses down the toilet or sink, instead of tossing them in the garbage. The plastic adds tons of waste to our water systems and eventually breaks down in small particles that end up in our food supply. TODAY’s Craig Melvin reports.Aug. 20, 2018
