In the wake of the suicide of Dr. Lorna Breen, who returned to work in a New York ER even after contracting COVID-19, NBC News medical correspondent Dr. John Torres tells TODAY that the impact of COVID on mental health “is something we’re still figuring out” and thinks it’s “definitely possible” the virus affected Breen’s brain. The burnout of being unable to keep up with the volume of coronavirus patients may well have also contributed, he says.
